Whole tomatillos are a fruit, closest in taste to a green unripe tomato. Minced finely with green chillies, coriander, shallots, salt, and a little lime juice, whole tomatillos make Mexico’s most popular sauce - salsa verde.
Tomatillos are also known as fresadilla, Mexican green tomatoes, tomate verde and miltomate.
These canned tomatillos are crammed with rich flavour, and can be used instead of fresh ones in recipes: simply eliminate the first step where the tomatillos are usually simmered or roasted.
Each can contains approx 25 tomatillos.
